Henri Fantin-Latour was an important French Realist painter and lithographer. He was born in the Rhone-Alpes in France and studied art in Paris. His flower paintings and group portraits of Parisian friends are most treasured by museums and collectors.
His paintings demonstrated close attention to detail often capturing subtle, real life innuendos of the slight imperfections in flowers and variations of shading. Fantin-Latour was more conservative in his paintings than his contemporaries; his work is often described as having a nearly photographic representation and produces an overall effect of mysterious distance.
